Time can take a toll on the face. So, you’re thinking about getting dermal fillers. We support this decision whole-heartedly. But, if you’ve ever watched an episode of Botched or heard about really any cosmetic horror-story, you may be turned off from all cosmetic enhancements. However, dermal fillers are minimally invasive at best. They rest somewhere in between a facial and a facelift – a procedure but not a surgery. If you do your research with the academic rigor of an honors student, you will be in good hands.
But even then, you still may be concerned with what the outcome will look like. After all, it’s not like a new hairstyle. You can’t try on a wig or upload your photo to an app to predict the outcome. You may know exactly what you want the final product to look like, but with so many different types of fillers and places they can go, it can be confusing to determine what exactly you need.
This is where we come in. Consider this article your personal cheat sheet to filler placement and type. There’s no better way to fully assess your options than to see real pictures with a description of what’s been done – and we’ve dug up the best examples so that you don’t have to! We want you to feel empowered in your own body, but confident and educated in your decisions.
Lip Fillers
These are hot right now. Chances are, you know at least one person who’s lips quadrupled in size and plumpness overnight. No, not a bee sting or allergic reaction. Just a simple injection of hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body. The thing that most people don’t know is that lip fillers are totally and completely customizable. Lip fillers do not equate to Kylie Jenner lips – well, unless that’s what you want.
Instead, you can get lip fillers to restore a previous lip size, to make your lips more symmetrical, or smooth out wrinkles. Here’s the best part: they last for 12 to 18 months and they’re reversible. If you’re happy with the end product, you have around a year of your dream lips, depending on your metabolism, before needing another round. If you’re not happy, your doctor can inject an enzyme – hyaluronidase – to dissolve the filler. The point is, if you do your homework and find a qualified practitioner, the stakes are low.
Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s look at some examples:
Cheek Fillers
Do you feel like your cheeks droop and aren’t as defined as they used to be/you’d like them to be? If your answer is yes, then you may be the perfect candidate for cheek fillers. These hyaluronic acid injections deliver lifting structure and definition to your cheeks/cheekbones. You don’t necessarily even need to have the “sunken cheek” look to reap the benefits of a cheek filler.
The result is going to depend largely on what you’re working with and who’s doing the procedure. Just like an artist specializing in sculptures manipulates a medium to create a vision, your physician uses their tool (injections) strategically to sculpt your face to match your vision. Enhanced cheekbones? Check. More volume? Check. Less wrinkles and fine lines? Check, check. If the results aren’t as dramatic as you were hoping, you can easily revisit for more injections. The change is buildable.
Let’s look at some examples, shall we:
Under-Eye Filler
Let’s be honest with one another, who here is actually getting a full 8-hours of sleep? If you are, we commend you but if you’re not, you might want to look into an under-eye filler. An under-eye filler will render your eye creams and concealers useless garbage. That’s right, hyaluronic acid injections under your eyes will fill out hollows and bags, remove shadows, and make you look like sleeping beauty even after an all-nighter.
Now, we know what you’re thinking – an under-eye injection sounds like straight up torture. But, modern medicine has prepared for this. A special, more blunt type of needle is used and rather than needing a bunch of tiny injections, only one insertion is required. Need I say more?
Before you hop on the under-eye filler train, distinguish between whether you’re trying to clear up shadows or hyperpigmentation. Under-eye fillers are not a solution to hyperpigmentation. If that is your main goal, raise this question during your consultation to determine whether you have shadows or hyperpigmentation.
Now, for the best part:
Nose Filler
In the 2020 plastic surgery statistics report, nose job was listed as the #1 cosmetic surgery. Since 2020, a significant number of people have sought to come out of quarantine as a new and improved version of themselves. You might be one of them, and we love that for you. With nose fillers (aka a liquid nose job), you get the nose job without the worst parts of a surgical procedure.
The hyaluronic acid fillers can fill the areas beside a bump on the bridge of the nose to create a smooth streamlined effect. They can also be injected at the tip of the nose, to make it appear more perky and lifted. Because the nose has less movement than the rest of the face, a nose filler may last you longer than other types of fillers. The results are immediate, and unlike a nose job there is no recovery period. Get a liquid nose job on your lunch break and return to work a new version of yourself!
